Summer finally.......sweating is the body's way of internally cooling you! More fit we get, more we sweat, more efficient our cooling system becomes, so working out in hotter weather can be fun, as long as we get plenty of fluids, (water is best).

Cold water dissipates quicker into body and drinking water before during and after working out replenishes vital "good stuff" to keep us moving! So move your body, keep those fluids going and remember ..........................sweating is a very good thing!!! Cheers, Dee

Four score and many months ago, you heard from me! Then site was down and ah-haaaa it is back! Turning 50 this year gives me a whole new perspective on things, including staying active and being fit! Not Olympic athlete fit, (but you could if you wanted to) fit enough to do yard work all day, take a 5 or 10 mile bike ride,( one or two miles counts too!) climb stairs to load and unload perennials to plant, clipping and trimming bushes and the list goes on and on. Functional fitness, means doing what you want ,when you want for as long as you want. The is what NFOF is about! Fitness is not a number on a scale, it is not a size you wear. It is how you feel, how you sweat, how you live, 24/7/365! Wonderful world out there, despite the price of gas, the economy, etc. Speaking of the price of gas...what motivation to bike ride more and park the car more. No bike paths? Well I plan to work on that where I live and you can too. Want to know how? Email me! Let the bike riding begin! I ahve missed you! Happy Spring! Dee

I know I know-- it has been months.

Divorce is hell! Funny thing is... It doesn't really kill you--it just feels like it will. Learning that no matter what we go through we can make choices that empower us or not is an ongoing process. Just when we think we know it all, we've done it all--life sends us another lesson, another experience to keep on learning. The true definition of learning means that once learned a change will occur. The direct opposite of insanity, which is doing same things and expecting different results.

The loss and drama of a 20 years marriage ending when you did not see it coming drove me to hiding in my room, M.D.F. (minimal daily functioning) and drove my weight to the 300 pound mark. Not all the way back to where I began in 1989 but only 80-90 pounds away. It was like all my new tools I had used for so long, those same tools that have helped so many others finally "get it" with regard to their well-being. Their health, their sense of self, just laid down to rest. Maybe even at one point, to die...Or so it felt.

There was no flash of lightning, no major revelation, just getting through the feelings and realizing once again, for the 100th time in my life--I can not control others or outside forces. I can only work on my reaction to those uncontrollables. I can react in many ways, damaging or loving. Thank God, my inner core circle of friends, and my sons and sister, I am once again choosing the healthy tools. Since last time I wrote on the toodles page, I have lost 60 pounds, not by magical meals on wheels, not by mega-marathons-r-us, just putting one foot in front of the other, using the same tools I used in my book.

The faithful, never faltering truths.

Moving my body moves my mind!
Bad things happen to good people!
Attitude is everything!
If you believe it, you can achieve it!
and last, but by no means least...... TRYING IS SUCCEEDING!

My dear pals if you get these truths--you can and will get through any thing life brings.

Here's to a happy and healthy 2007 for us all! Love and hugs, Dee

Hey there---it is about time I was blogging you eh? Summer is winding down--so fast eh?

Still time for extra activity--the more we mix it up....the less bored we get! Try water fitness classes, try roller blading, if you are a walker-- then hop on a bike--if you are a biker-- time to take a walk---your body needs to mix-it up.

The training principle of adaptability states- that over time your body adjusts to the mode of your exercise. So to be well-rounded in our workouts-- we need ...variety...variety...variety --and we always need WATER!!

Sun's up and here's to you! Cheers, Dee

Job hunting is a more than full time job, so is single parent-time. Not great excuses for being unattentive to toodles but the truth (nonetheless). I hope this finds your summer sailing, your body moving and your spirits sunny! I hope to get back on track soon! Cheers ...Dee
