Definition

NFOF Program is designed to attract and retain those often excluded or ignored by fitness and the fitness and health care industry. NFOF is a lifestyle, weilness program which incorporates exercise, behavior modification, education, support, socialization and positive reinforcement specifically tailored to reach the deconditioned, overweight, and those under medical supervision. The exercise class component is led by a variety of different size and shape instructors personi~ing the fact that fitness comes in different sizes and shapes and size does not necessarily determine fitness level. This program eliminates the ostracism and intimidation felt by inactive or overweight people as they approach the exercise environment, thus enhancing their dedication and adherence to their commitment to health.

The NFOF Program Components;

* Personal assessment and orientation of the program (group or individual) specific modifications are shown to members when necessary, physician's consent is obtained for all members by NFOF staff

* Fun, safe, effective movement classes where motivational themes are used

* Member information package

* Progression monitored through measurement tracking system and body fat analysis (weighing on scales and dieting are not part of the program) where available - blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels are monitored also

* NFOF weekly support sessions that include: guest speakers, education and resource sessions, sharing sessions and social sessions

* NFOF News & Views - nationally produced and distributed monthly newsletter that networks, educates, motivates all members across the country (subscription for members or for licensees)

* Quarterly recognition parties called "Celebrate You" to reward and recognize all participants. Members are encouraged to invite and include family and fliends thus reinforcing the "inclusion of all" and to break down barriers often created when family member begins to make changes in their life.

* NFOF program provides opportunity for members to become certified to teach classes or to help adininistratively run the program as member organizer. The NFOF Instructor Training Incentive aspect assists members in becoming certified by loaning study materials and/or covering costs for certification.

* Nationally - there are four contests held per year(behavior modification) that licensees'members can tap into: January - Fruits and Veggies contest named "F&V Up", April - "H2O Up" (drinking and logging water), July - "Breakfast Up" (eating and logging breal:fast) , October - "Commitment to Fitness" Attendance contest. Healthy guidelines are given to all members who participate, everyone who tries and mails their logging sheet to Dee receives their reward from Dee personally. Contests results are printed in the {iational NFOF News & Views newsletter.

* Nationally - there are opportunities for members, staff, and management to enter drawings to win free wellness events such as "Sail the Sea with Dee" Bahamas Cruise and "Wilderness W~lness Week with Dee in Kauai" and staff and management may continue their education by entering drawings to win free trips to health and fitness conventions( 1 to 2 per year) where continuing education credits may be received.

Expansion programming for NFOF includes: "NFOF Kidzfun!" (K-8th grade) and Sports Training.

Purpose:

NFOF was created by Dee Hakala and exists to "Get America Off the Couch~" At close to 350 pounds, back in 1989, with a myriad of medical complications due to weight, Dee resolved to change her life. Her introduction to the fitness setting was met with fear, intimidation and seclusion. The instructors were unfamiliar with her needs and as a result often neglected to show modifications that would have made her feel more comfortable and successfiil in her efforts. Her experience as member of this virtually neglected population(which, at present, is the majority of Americans in our country) combined with her personal persistence and determination to achieve a healthier lifestyle was her inspiration to develop a program that would not only benefit her, but would also help others in similar circumstances. She recognized a need to create a supportive, educational, safe and effective exercise program that would not isolate the overweight, deconditioned or those under medical supervision, but enable them to access a specialized program in a "normal" fitness setting and allow them to experience feelings of being accepted by general population and feelings of success right from the beginning. With adherence to the program members would reap similar benefits such as Dee. Since 1992, Dee has maintained over 100 pound fat loss, corrected hypertension, elevated blood cholesterol and eliminated diabetes.

Mission Statement:

The New Face of Fitness Program provides innovative, practical and top quality guidance in the fitness, health and body image areas that CHANGES the way people think about their health, fitness, size, ability and who deserves health and well-being. We believe our first responsibility is to the facility's patron's who use our program and services, to enable them to make health and fitness a new choice and priority in their lives. We also have a responsibility to provide purchasing facilities with continued support in their use of the NFOF Program so they may succeed in their own businesses through the operation of our programs and products. We strive to:

Follow the philosophy that our customers/members desire to choose healthy options, incorporate confidence, exercise and self-esteem into their lives by achieving their New Face of Fitness while having fim in the process. Be considered as caring members of our communities.

Our customers, vendors, and employees will see New Face of Fitness as offering an enhanced quality of life and continuing support for all their health, fitness and well-being endeavors.

National Averages:

Over 70% of operating sites have experienced increase in customer base membership ranging from 20 to 60%.

Our conservative, yet successfiil, membership goal is to see 25 new members added due to NFOF program and to see this membership increase over the first year. In 1995, with national introduction of NFOF, 75% of the opening sites reached this goal within the first 90 day period. Retention rate for membership in the NFOF program is over 90%! Average inches lost per member per 90 day period is 6 1/2 inches. Hosts of members write to Dee personally, telling of their success with respect to lowering blood pressures and getting off medications. The medical community has made very positive remarks and supported the program in local areas where the NFOF program operates.

With the current state of our country's health and inactivity level we can not afford to wait! We must get people off the couch regardless of their size, shape, age, ability and keep them active! The New Face of Fitness Program is the answer to what ails the majority of Americans in our country!

Program Implementation Highlights

Upon execution of the license agreement:

The required training visit win be scheduled. The Licensee may choose between the three day training visit or the one day overview training visit. We recommend scheduling the three-day training visit as it enables Dee to provide training and to partidpate in promotion and the actual program kickoff. The three-day visit provides greater flexibility and opportunity for media exposure. Promotional events scheduled to coincide with the three-day training visit will be included in the cost of the training visit. Specific details of the three-day training, promotion, and kick-off will be discussed and mutually agreed upon.

The one day overview training does not allow for enough time to highlight training, promote and kickoff. If the Licensee opts for the one-day overview training visit, we recommend scheduling a return visit for Dee to kick-off off the program and to conduct and participate in appropriate free events and promotional activities. Due to the thoroughness and importance of the training, the one day visit does not allow enough time to combine training with promotional and kick-off activities. However, training video tapes may be available for licensee to use "on loan" in conjunction with one day visits. Mutual agreement will decide which event/training is scheduled and conducted.

The Licensee win receive one media kit and a New Face of FitnessR proprietary operations manual. Promotional and news items should be circulated 3 weeks prior to the program kick-off or special event. This includes letters to appropriate reporters and the notices for community calendar or date books of print and broadcast outlets. Personal telephone follow up should be conducted with call backs and letters executed to confirm interviews.

Actual program kickoff may include: a free and open-to-the-public motivational address by Dee introducing New Face of Fitnesss that tells Dee's story and philosophy, a sample workout, sample support session and body image workshop. Any combination of these makes for a fun, informational and successful day. We recommend a minimum of: a motivational address with an open house and support session combination. Day-long special events have proven very successful too, including: "Kidzfun" and P.L.A.Y. activities course events that include the whole family! Based on results achieved at the first New Face of FitnessR program sites, 75% of all consumers who come out for the kickoff events join the program that day or shortly after!

Once the program is operating, Dee will be available for promotional visits. With the introduction of the New Face of Fitness Wellness Team in 1997, as a licensee, you will have opportunity to bring Dee and the team to your facility to host a number of events. This may include 9-day celebrations or other promotional themes created by you or the for your 99 day celebrations or other promotional themes you created or by Dee and the "Wellness Team." At any time you may or may not choose to participate. All members nationwide will have the opportunity to network through the New Face of Fitness News & View's monthly publication. "Sail the Sea with Dee" and "Wilderness Wellness Week with Dee" are other incentive events for licensee's staff and/or members to utilize. The NFOF instructor incentive training program trains and assists members in becoming certified instructors to teach the exercise component of the NFOF program.

In addition, Dee will conduct national contests for program participants that reinforce behavior modification to further support the motivational components of the program which assists you as a Licensee on a local level. Licensees will also receive regular communication via New Face of Fitness Director's Memo to provide you with approved marketing materials and ongoing support.
