Dee's CorkboardWelcome to Dee's Corkboard. This is where Dee posts remarks and comments from You!
My story is nowhere near as extreme as yours but I too have battled obesity for all of my adult life. I am 33 years old. In March 1999,1 started working out just to feel better. I honestly thought that I could not lose weight! (I had tried everything!) Anyway, even though I was petrified of health clubs [totally intimidated by the 'beautiful' buff people], I found a great club at a local hospital, started working out and found out I loved it! As a result of changing my eating habits and working out, I lost 40 Ibs. (I am still working to lose about 15 more pounds before my wedding on March 2, 2002.) Like you, I eventually got AFAA certified and I teach two aerobics classes a week now! Anyway, just a little note to say that you are a brave woman who is an inspiration to anyone fighting to get healthier! Have a lovely holiday season. May God bless you and your family C.C. - Metairie, Louisiana

Dee: Hi!! I hope this finds you well. I just got your book from the library last night and can't put it down. The more I read, the more I find we have in common. It's so inspirational and motivating. I feel that God sent me to the library to find your book....... IT'S WHAT I'VE NEEDED FOR SO LONG. I'm really believing that if YOU can do it, so can I and anyone else. I'll write more soon but I just wanted to write and say HI and tell you how important what you've learned, experienced and have to say.....Thanks so very, very much for being YOU. I just want to say thankyou - i am mailing from England - UK. I used to be slim and fit and an aerobics instructor and then shock horror - i got older - lazy - unffit - overweight. Last year Ilooked everywhere to find a local class for the average person - yes - me? I had a thought before Xmas that if i am looking for a gentle class to join then how many other people are? My dad who is also an instructor, gave me your name and your web pages and you have given me the kick start i needed. I have booked a room and got posters out and am starting my own class again Monday So THANK YOU! Joanne

Dear Dee I just finished reading your book, and for the first time, I feel as if I could actually relate someone's words to my own life. I am 28 years old, 5'6", and am over 300 pounds. This is the first time I have ever weighed this much, and I feel like I'm dying. My back is usually in severe pain, especially after standing for long periods of time. I have just gone through a whole year of not moving. I had a sit down job, and I rarely left my house. I just moved back to Florida with my parents, after leaving a bad relationship I had pathetically hung on to for 6 years. So, here I am, starting over again. Depression has been a big part of my life, but I believe I have hit a new time low. The good news is I read your book, and now I have started moving. I tried walking, but I couldn't get very far without having severe pain. So, now I've taken up water aerobics. Still going very slowly, but it feels good to actually be awakening muscles that had been dormant for so long. I just wanted to thank you for writing such inspiring words. Thank you and God Bless.Sally D.
Dee I just had to write you and tell you how much I enjoyed your book, "Thin". I went to Barnes & Noble on Tuesday 9/1/98 to find something to help motivate me towards improving my health. I was standing there looking at all those diet, fitness, low fat cookbooks, etc. and wasn't seeing anything that I hadn't before. I saw your picture on the cover of the book. you remind me so much of myself, in your looks and attitude. Our lives are so similar, and I needed someone that I could relate to. I sat there and could not stop reading. I came home and have read it twice. I have told so many of my friends to get it as well. I am thankful for the approach you have taken on fitness, you're right, that's where it all starts. I am truly grateful for your experiences which led you to accomplish the things that you have and for the effort you have put forth to publish this book. I am really motivated and I just wanted you to know this is an answer to my prayers. Thank you. My best to you, your family and staff. Congratulations on all your success.
Believe To Achieve
Hi Dee I have read and reread your book. Some of my friends are having Barnes & Noble order it for them, too. I just moved here from Tulsa, OK. I had my first aerobic class experience the other night, it was an intro. to step class. Since I haven't made any friends here, I didn't have a buddy with me so I am learning to be my own friend. I just kept telling myself, "it's OK, trying is succeeding". Thanks! My best to you, your family and staff J. Marie Clark - Cary, NC

Hi Dee I am working my way through "Thin is just a four letter word", I love the book, it was almost as if you read my mind and wrote a book. I never though it was possible for someone to express my experiences in life and how I view things in my own little way. Thank you so much for your time, effort, and inspiration. Lisa Dee I picked up your book purely by chance and it is a terrific tool. I carry it with me everywhere both for ideas and for inspiration. Phrases and sentences get copied into the journal I've started. There is a lot more I could tell you but you know it. You've lived it. Beverly D.
