Have you heard of the newer, improved Healthy Eating food pyramid, created by Dr. Walter Willet of the Harvard School of Public Health? High quality carbs like whole grain foods, healthy fats like plant oils, are at the bottom of the triangle while fast burning carbs are at the apex of the triangle along side red meats. Daily exercise and weight control run along the very bottom the the base of the triangle. Lots of veggies and 2-3 servings of fruits a day.
Neither pyramid is a be-all-end-all, but it might be something that helps us redefine our food choices each day. I like the fact that the Healthy Eating Pyramid includes activity and breaks down food groups more than the USDA pyramid. Bottom line: variety (even in the food choices department) is the spice of YOUR life and YOUR Health! Want more DEEtails? Let me know! Cheers! Dee
